2008 HOLDEN TAKES SUPERSTOCK SIXTH FOR CORONA EXTRA HONDA AT ROAD AMERICA

Image by Brian J. NelsonJake Holden rode his Superstock Honda CBR1000RR to sixth position at a very wet and wild Road America this weekend. Electrical gremlins sidelined teammate Matt Lynn’s effort in Superbike.

Both riders struggled to get a good set up for the 4.3 mile track owing to severe weather delays with heavy rain and tornado warnings through most of the weekend! Lynn qualified on the third row, eleventh in SuperBike and Holden made it to the front row, gridding third in Superstock, but both complained that the track conditions were very “sketchy.”

In the first Superbike race, an electrical problem surfaced on the warm-up lap, and even though the crew replaced some components just after the start, Matt retired after four laps. Jake crashed twice in the warm-up practice session on race day, run in torrential rain, so was understandably gun-shy come race time! Knowing how important consistent finishes are, Jake decided to ride at a steady pace and not take any chances of falling off. He brought the CBR1000RR home in sixth place in this, his second ever wet race! Jake remains in second place in the championship points.

The crew removed all the electrical components of the Superbike and replaced them with new items in an attempt to solve the electrical problem that had sidelined Matt in race one. The bike worked fine in practice and for the first laps of the Superbike race, with Matt getting up to ninth and holding the position for eight laps when the misfire problem began again and slowly got worse until eventually Lynn had to retire on lap 13. A very dejected Lynn said, “The bike started missing at peak revs and the miss slowly got lower in the revs until it was cutting out coming off the corners. I just had to park it!” Lynn is twelfth in the championship points.
